Whenever a portrait project lands on my desk I shift back and forth between glee and utter fear. Portraits are difficult. There is simply no way around the immense challenge that I face whenever I paint a portrait.  The tug and pull between getting a likeness and expressing a personality is challenging. A painted portrait is more about capturing the idea of the person rather than the likeness. If I wanted a likeness, I would take a photo. An illustrated portraits allows us to dive into the heart and mind of the subject. Heather is a bubbly personality smashed in with a brilliant writer. I wanted these concepts to flow from her painting. I really hope you enjoy.
